Mindfulness Coach
There was a moment about 10 years ago when I just didn’t want to be me anymore. I didn’t want to die but I wasn’t enjoying being alive either. I felt trapped in my own brain. It was scary, miserable and frustrating.
I had fallen out of love with my video production business a couple of years before and I had no clue what else to do. Or who I was without it.
I was crying a lot, without knowing why and I just felt lost and sad and helpless.
On paper, my life was great. I had a lovely husband, family, friends, we’d just finished renovating our house which I loved managing, and we lived in a sweet little town by the sea. You’d be forgiven for wondering what I was making such a fuss about.
But up until that point I’d been living my life as if someone else had been running it. I wasn’t really aware and conscious of who I was, what I wanted, what was important to me, or what made me happy.
It was as if I wasn’t present to my own life.
So I am eternally grateful to a friend who asked me at the time if I wanted to take a mindfulness course that his organisation were offering.
This was the beginning of my awakening.
I was immediately taken by the simple but powerful effect that mindfulness had on my entire outlook on life. I couldn’t believe it.
Being impatient, I was very pleased with the immediacy of some of the techniques. But on a deeper level, I now had a set of principles to guide me through life. I’m not religious so I’d never had any structure around ‘how to live’ before. And it was something I didn’t realise I’d been missing.
Over the next few years I graduated from participant to teacher, then on to a coach. I alternated my training every year between mindfulness and coaching, adding in various other courses along the way like trauma and somatic coaching.
I had finally found the thing that made me happy, that I was good at, and that gave me purpose. It filled me with such joy at being able to help other people break free from their own lives.
So cut to now, and I’ve been embodying mindfulness for nearly a decade. It’s helped me to create the life I want. I live in a beautiful Spanish town between the sea and the mountains with my amazing husband. Doing the work I love, but not pushing myself half to death doing it either. My work/ life balance is finally under control and it feels great.
I don’t stress over things like I used to either, I have a different perspective on life and other people, which means I don’t take things personally, I am a lot more understanding of other people’s behaviour, and I am a lot more appreciative of life itself.
This is what I hope for you. That you can feel in charge of your life (which is very different from being in control, this is an impossible achievement, and something that mindfulness teaches me over and over again), to be in an environment that nourishes you, to spend time with people who you love and who value you, to work in a way that allows your uniqueness to shine, and for you to feel at one with the world around you. At peace if you will.
Much love, Kate

A mindfulness coach is a professional who guides you in cultivating mindfulness practices for improved focus, emotional regulation, and overall life satisfaction. You’ll learn techniques and mindsets to enhance present moment awareness, reduce stress and promote mental wellbeing. Millions of people around the world practice mindfulness as a way of feeling more connected to themselves, more joyful and happier in their relationships (with friends, loved ones, children and their partners). Mindfulness is an ancient practice rooted in Buddhism however Kate teaches a secular version, commonly known through Jon Kabat-Zinn’s teachings. This means you are free to add your own spiritual or religious practice to the techniques that Kate teaches.

Yes I do. Think of meditation as the formal way that we train our brain. Like going to the gym for the mind. Mindfulness is where we put this training into practice, in real life. So for example in a guided meditation we might practice being focused on our breath or heartbeat - then we take this technique of choosing our focus point when we’re feeling particularly distracted and need to get something done. Or we might practice allowing our thoughts to come and go and not add unhelpful and untrue stories to them in a guided formal meditation - then in real life, when we’re feeling overwhelmed with negative unhelpful thoughts we can use this technique to take a moment, take a breath and allow these thoughts to simply ‘be' without our interference, allowing us to direct our intention elsewhere which in tern alters how we feel.

Mindfulness and Life Coaching are distinct yet complementary approaches to personal development. Mindfulness involves cultivating present-moment awareness, encouraging you to observe thoughts and emotions without judgment. It emphasises being fully engaged in the current experience, improving self-awareness and reducing stress in all its forms. Life coaching is a goal oriented process where you are helped to clarify your objectives and guided to develop strategies to achieve them. It involves accountability and action plans to propel you towards your desired outcomes. While mindfulness enhances self-awareness and resilience, life coaching provides a structured framework for goal achievement. Integrating both leads to a holistic approach, addressing both inner balance and external success. This is why it’s so powerful and effective.
