A Mindful Approach to Increasing Visibility

Using the Power of PR is essential for Entrepreneurs

As an entrepreneur, understanding how to harness the power of PR can significantly elevate your visibility and credibility.

Here are my top insights from expert Naomi White with some real-world applications to help you embark on your PR journey effectively.

To build your brand's presence in the media requires patience, persistence, and precision. It’s not just about gaining exposure, it’s about building trust and establishing your brand as a thought leader in your industry.

When I first started reaching out to publications and podcast hosts it felt uncomfortable and a long shot. But I promise, with the right approach, persistence and a clear strategy you’ll be able to secure some great exposure.

Here’s my easy check list

1. Your Story

Begin by identifying compelling personal or life stories that relate to your business. Journalists are continually scouting for fresh and engaging stories that provide value to their readers. Think about what unique experiences or insights you can share that solve problems, add value, or improve lives.

2. Your Audience

It’s crucial to align your messages with what your target consumers are seeking. Every piece of content should add value, solve a problem, or enhance the lives of your readers. This alignment not only attracts media attention but also builds a loyal audience.

3. Valuable Insights

Journalists have a penchant for practical tips and lists. Offer innovative and unique advice on topics relevant to your niche. For example, if you specialise in mindfulness, provide new methods for incorporating mindfulness into daily routines. Remember, the key is to stand out with novel information.

4. The Right Platforms

Identify where your audience consumes information and where your competitors are getting coverage. Tools like Readly, which offers a database of over 12,000 publications, can help you pinpoint where to focus your PR efforts.

5. Journalist Platforms

Platforms such as Connectively, Response Source, and X alerts for #journalistrequest are goldmines for finding journalists in need of content. Be proactive on these platforms for valuable media opportunities.

6. Your Pitches

When reaching out to publications, customise your pitch to fit their specific needs and audience. Include clear, concise content, and express why your story fits their publication. Be sure to provide a compelling bio and professional headshot to accompany your pitches.

7. Your Outreach

Your initial contact with journalists should be well researched and personalised. Pitch directly to the right contact person, be clear and concise from the start, and make sure to proof-read your emails for any errors. Attach all relevant PR materials, and don’t forget to follow up politely if you don’t hear back within a few days.

8. Continuous Learning and Adaptation

Consider investing in self-study courses to refine your branding and business strategies through PR. Understanding the dynamics of PR and continuously adapting your strategy will keep your outreach efforts fresh and effective.

9. Monitor and Adjust

Stay informed about current events and industry trends. Make sure your pitch is relevant to what’s happening in the world right now. This awareness will help you tailor your content to be timely and relevant, addressing current issues that resonate with readers and provide real solutions.

10. Your USP

Highlight your unique selling proposition in each pitch. What sets you apart from competitors? Do you have a unique method that you’ve developed or maybe you have a particular expertise? Make sure it shines through. This will capture the interest of journalists but will also appeal to your target audience.

I hope this helps to get you started, or inspires you to carry on.

This area of business is a marathon not a sprint. Keep your expectations realistic, and keep going….

Good luck!
